Bittel Family Student Assistance

Bittel Family Student Assistance

The Bittel Family Student Assistance Fund was originally established in 2006 by Doug Bittel, Ph.D., and Lisa Stehno-Bittel, Ph.D. Doug received his doctorate from the University of Missouri and did post-doctoral fellowships at the University of Minnesota and KU. He is an Associate Professor in Genetics Research within the Department of Pediatrics at Children’s Mercy Hospital & Clinics of Kansas City. Lisa began her academic career at KU, where she received a bachelor’s degree in physical therapy. She earned a Ph.D. in Physiology from the University of Missouri. After her post-doctoral work in pharmacology at the Mayo School of Medicine in Rochester, Minn., she joined the faculty in the Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Science at the KU Medical Center.

This fund provides assistance to students in the Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Science in the School of Health Professions. This assistance may include, but not be limited to, providing renewable graduate scholarships for students with academic merit in the PhD program or salary support to Graduate Teaching Assistants or Graduate Research Assistants. If during any academic year there are no eligible PhD students to receive a scholarship, then the fund may be used for any qualified student in the Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Science.
