Department of Sociology Undergraduate Scholarship Application

The KU Department of Sociology is accepting applications for its annual undergraduate scholarships.
All KU Sociology majors are eligible.

Complete and submit this online application form by the listed deadline.

In advance of the deadline, contact potential references who would be willing to recommend you for this award. When you select two references and list them on this application, they will receive an email with instructions for submitting a short form on your behalf. Both references must submit their reference form by the application deadline.

  10. Short Essay Questions:
    Please answer each of the following questions in 300 words or less

    1. How does your education in sociology inform the way you think about your personal background? You can comment on your identity, culture, community, or life circumstances.
  11. 2. How do you apply your sociological education? Give examples of activities you do outside of your coursework–such as independent research, community engagement, student organizations, employment or career goals–and explain how sociology informs your work.
  12. 3. How would this scholarship award help you pursue your education and career goals? Describe your financial need and any upcoming opportunities that this award would help fund.
  13. 4. List any scholarships, awards, grants, or fellowships you have received during your time at KU. Include name, description, date, and amount.

    1. Please provide the name and email address of your first faculty reference. Your faculty reference should be an instructor that teaches at the University of Kansas or another college that you attended (this may include graduate students).
