Damon Kiley Meeker Scholarship
The Center for Sexuality and Gender Diversity is inviting applicants for the Damon Kiley Meeker Scholarship Fund.
This fund will be used to provide scholarships to undergraduate students who are natural-born US citizens, majoring in a STEM field, at the University of Kansas, who demonstrate a commitment to, or involvement in the lesbian, gay, transgender, and queer community.
• Preference will be given to freshmen with a GPA of 2.7 or higher
o Should no freshman qualify, preference will be given to all other undergraduates with a minimum GPA of 3.0 .
Scholarship amounts are dependent on number of qualified applicants.
The funds will be distributed in equal amounts for both Fall and Spring semesters of the upcoming academic yea.
Students are encouraged to apply for scholarship funds on an annual basis.
Although there is no length requirement for essay responses, a response of 300 words for each essay would likely be long enough to provide reviewers with enough context and insight into the candidate to evaluate and compare responses. Keep in mind reviewers use these responses to determine who, out of all applicants, receives funding. Be as complete and detailed as you feel is helpful for reviewers.
All recipients need to write a thank you letter/card to the donor. The letter/card is due at or before Lavender graduation. Failure to write and submit a letter/card may result in ineligibility to receive the funding. Center staff are available to assist students in writing the letter if helpful.
All recipients are highly encouraged to attend Lavender Graduation where they will receive public recognition and their award. Attending Lavender Graduation is not a requirement to receive an award.
We encourage students to apply to all scholarships they are eligible for. All SGD scholarships utilize the same application questions. If students are applying to more than one SGD scholarship, please copy and paste your responses and submit the same responses for each application.
