Frances Fullerton Heck and Larry Heck Emergency Fund
This fund shall be used to provide emergency aid for undergraduate students enrolled at the Lawrence campus of the University of Kansas to support transportation and/or housing costs to visit a relative who is critically ill or has a new diagnosis of a recognized fatal illness. Relatives would include parents, siblings, aunts, and uncles and grandparents including step relatives. Examples of critical illnesses include heart or brain surgery, ALS or critical organ cancer. It is preferred that application for funding include a physician communication confirming the medical condition that merits the need for funding. Students are only eligible to receive this award one time and are expected to provide a thank you note to be shared with Larry or Frances Heck or their representative. Expenditures from the fund shall follow all University of Kansas policies and procedures and be made upon the recommendation of the Vice Provost for Student Affairs with the approval of KU Endowment. If no awards are made from the fund for a period of two academic years, the available funds shall be used to provide scholarships for students in the form of need-based grants in accordance with University of Kansas criteria at the Lawrence campus of the University of Kansas. Preference shall be given to members of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity, Beta Theta Pi fraternity, Pi Beta Phi sorority, or Delta Gamma sorority that have a 2.5 to 3.0 grade point average.
